The pedal unit for a vehicle, e.g. an accelerator pedal, has a rotation cylinder element (32) on the pedal mounting to provide a controlled reaction force. The pedal mounting is connected to a rotating hub of the cylindrical element and has two diametrically opposed rollers on sprung arms to roll on the inside of the cylinder housing. The rolling track includes profiled slopes to generate different reaction forces. The housing is rotated by a pinion (38) to set the optimum start and end positions. The fully depressed pedal can activate a kick down control for an automatic transmission.
