PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always accurately estimate the residual amt. of ink. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge 19 mounted on an ink jet printer 5 stores cartridge control data including 'ink cartridge', 'total amt. of ink used' and 'cartridge discrimination data'. A host device 1 stores host control data including 'total amount of ink used' and 'cartridge discrimination data' at every cartridge and collates the cartridge control data read by a printer 5 with the stored host control data to judge an accurate 'total amt. of ink used'. After printing processing is completed, the printer 5 calculates the amt. of ink used in printing and host divice 1 renews the 'total amount of ink used' on the basis of the calculated use amt. of ink. The printer 5 up dates the 'total amount of ink used' of the cartridge control data to the 'total amount of ink used' renewed by the host device 1. |
