PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical film by which repelling of a coating solution is prevented in the manufacture process of a retardation film using a cholesteric liquid crystal and an optical film having preferable optical uniformity is obtained as a result.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an optical film having a phase separation structure having at least two or more layers including a layer having a helical twisted molecular structure and a layer having an isotropic molecular structure is characterized in that a composition containing a polymerizable nematic liquid crystal compound, a polymerizable chiral agent and a polymerization initiator is applied together with a solvent onto a substrate and irradiated with radiation in an atmosphere at Ti±2.0°C.
