PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect, in either one of color misalignment control or density control, a difference (density deviation or color misalignment) that is the other control object, and then dynamically determines whether the other control needs to be executed or not. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a color misalignment sensor 32 for detecting a color misalignment control pattern; a density sensor 33 for detecting a density control pattern; and a control section 31 for executing color misalignment control and density control based upon the detection results by the sensors 32 and 33. When exerting either the color misalignment control using the detection result of the color misalignment sensor 32 or the density control using the detection result of the density sensor 33, the control section 31 detects the presence or absence of a difference (density deviation or color misalignment), which is the other control object, based on the detection result used for the one control. when the detected difference that is the other control object exceeds a predetermined allowable amount, the control section 31 exerts control to correct the difference (density control or color misalignment control).
