<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display and its drive method by which deterioration in image quality can be prevented, by suppressing flickers at half the frequency of the frame frequency and the consumption of the electric power can be decreased by stopping a signal line driving circuit and a counter electrode drive circuit, during partial display mode. <P>SOLUTION: The active matrix liquid crystal display which can switch between a partial display mode and a normal display mode and its drive method are characterized in that: when k (k is an integer of≥1) of partial display areas are present in one frame period, the counter electrode potential V<SB>com</SB>is varied in 2k times; the counter electrode potential V<SB>com</SB>in a display part scanning period Ts to scan the partial display area is kept constant, with respect to the ground potential (0 V); and the counter electrode potential V<SB>com</SB>in a waiting period Twt, other than the display part scanning period Ts, is controlled to a constant potential different from the constant potential in the display part scanning period Ts. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
