METHOD FOR SECURING SAFETY IN MACHINE TOOL AND PHOTOELECTRIC SENSOR FOR PERFORMING SUCH METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge whether machining process is carried out correctly and infallibly to a work or not besides to secure the safety on the work with a machine tool.

SOLUTION: A stamping machine and a press consist of an upper tool 2 and a lower tool 4 and the upper tool 2 is moved downward to bend the work on the lower tool 4. A transmitter 12 and a receiver 14 are held with holding arms 10 on both sides of the upper tool 2, comprise a photoelectric sensor and are moved together with the upper tool 2. A light beam 16 is transmitted from the transmitter 12 toward the receiver 14. The receiver has a two dimensional matrix-like photodetector such as a CCD. A three dimensional protected area 18 between the upper tool 2 and the lower tool 4 is monitored with the photoelectric sensor and the interception of the light beam 16 is detected. Whether the stop of the upper tool2 and the working process of the upper tool 2 are correctly carried out or not is judged on the basis of the detected signal.
