A knife cuts open the ventral thoracic and visceral zone of a dead wild animal e.g. deer killed by a hunter. The tool has a sheath (2) for a folding blade (5) that also serves as a hanging hook when suspended by e.g. a hook or other attachment inserted through the hanging hole. The blade has a serrated edge and a swing-limiting profile at the root. The blade is linked to the scabbard by a bolt. The scabbard has a U-shaped cross sectional profile.
