PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new yeast cell strain acquiring a new character without directly operating a gene encoded with a genome DNA or its transcript by inducing a 1 amino acid variant into histone H3 or H4 and to provide use thereof. SOLUTION: The present invention provides a variant yeast cell expressing a variant type histon H3 protein or histon H4 protein in which a specific 1 amino acid residue is substituted with an alanine residue, a variant type histon protein thereof, a polynucleotide encoding the variant type histon protein and a method for using the cell, the protein and the polynucleotide.
