PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve oxidation resistance of a resin for an optical material which is obtained by polymerizing and curing a new sulphur-containing compound having an episulfide structure. SOLUTION: A composition for the resin comprises a compound having at least one structure represented by formula (1) per one molecule (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-10C hydrocarbon; R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each independently a 1-10C hydrocarbon or H; and X is S or O, with a proviso that the number of S is≥50% on average with respect to the sum of S and O constituting a three-membered ring) and a compound having at least one SH group per one molecule. The ratio of the total molar number of the SH groups in the compound (b) to the total molar number of episulfide groups and/or epoxy groups in the compound (a) is 0.001-0.5.
