OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM, OPTICAL MULTIPLEXING SYSTEM, AND RELATED PERIPHERAL TECHNIQUE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for optimizing transmission conditions to achieve large-capacity transmission, and also to provide peripheral techniques for putting optical multiplexing that makes large-capacity transmission possible into practical use.

SOLUTION: An optical transmitter 100 sets a relation between a signal optical wavelength λsand a zero dispersion wavelength λ0to e.g., λs<λ0to cause wavelength dispersion and a dispersion value D of a dispersion compensation unit 112 at a receiver side is set to D>0 to carry out dispersion compensation. Thus, the intensity change in optical pulses transmitted through an optical fiber 102 is reduced to decrease waveform degradation due to the SPM effects.
