PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device in which irregularities, such as image stripes or spots due to noise are prevented from being generated. SOLUTION: A quantity of light of a lamp 2 is controlled by controlling an inverter 6 by an image processing circuit 5 so that a reference image signal resulting from reading a reference image by an image sensor 1 is converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 4 by obtaining a maximum output within a range of no saturation in an amplifier circuit 3, and an amplification rate of the amplifier circuit 3 is controlled.
