PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which can relatively easily achieve a contrast ratio higher than the original contrast of a liquid crystal light valve by a simple mechanism.
SOLUTION: Illumination lights, i.e. image lights modulated by respective liquid crystal light valves 25a to 25c are put together by a cross dichroic prism 27 and then dimmed by a liquid crystal light valve 28a by a proper quantity through proper pixels to impinge on a projection lens. The image light incident on the projection lens 29 is projected on an unillustrated screen. At this time, the image lights generated by the respective liquid crystal light valves 25a to 25c are properly reduced in luminance by the liquid crystal light valve 28a through a proper pixel section, so the image light can be projected with a contrast ratio much larger than a contrast ratio each realized cumulatively through a luminance adjustment by the liquid crystal light valves 25a to 25c alone.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
|
