PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase arc driving force after an arc commutates onto an arc runner, in a circuit breaker provided with the arc runner at the tip of a stationary contact. SOLUTION: In this circuit breaker wherein an arc-extinguishing device 4 provided with a plurality of grids 3 having V-shaped notches while being laminated through gaps is disposed so as to face the stationary contact 1 and a movable contact 2, and the arc runner 6 to move an arc generated between the stationary contact 1 and the movable contact 2 toward the arc extinguishing device 4 side is mounted on the stationary contact 1, an arc driving body 7 formed of a U-shaped magnetic plate is provided, the arc driving body 7 is combined with the arc runner 6 from the back side through a gap, and the leg parts 7a are uprighted on the both sides of the arc runner 6. After the arc 5 commutates to the arc runner 6, the magnetic fluxϕof a current passing through the arc runner 6 is gathered in the arc driving body 7, and powerfully drives the arc 5 toward the arc extinguishing device 4.
