A toothbrush includes an elongated shaft rotatably mounted to the cleaning surface of the brush head parallel to the longitudinal axis of the brush hea d. Cleaning elements are mounted to and extend outwardly from the shaft. In one embodiment of the invention the cleaning elements are disposed at an angle which is non-perpendicular to the shaft. In another embodiment of the invention the shaft and cleaning elements are in the form of a roller wherei n the cleaning elements extend continuously along the length of the shaft.</SD OAB>
