PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a gas sensor which is equipped with a gas detecting element having a diaphragm structure section and which can prevent the performance of a gas detecting section from lowering and prevent the diaphragm structure section from being damaged, in the case a foreign substance is introduced from an air hole. SOLUTION: Vents 31-39 which are approximately circular in plan view, are formed in a ceiling section 30 of a protection cap 3 in order to introduce gas to be measured into the inside (gas measuring space) of the gas sensor 1. The vents 31-39 are arranged so that orthogonal projection images of the vents 31-39 do not overlap gas detecting sections 12, 13, in the case that orthogonal projection of the vents 31-39 is carried out on a plane formed by extending surfaces of gas detecting elements 8, 9 horizontally. Accordingly, even in the case the foreign substances fall in environmental gas and pass through the vents 31-39, direct collisions of the foreign substances with the gas detecting sections 12, 13 (diaphragm structure sections 6B, 6D) are prevented.
