<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long size steel pipe pole erected on the ground superior in suitable rigidity and lightness, as a column erected in a place requiring durability such as a pole for an illuminating lamp of a superhighway. <P>SOLUTION: This steel pipe pole is erected on the ground for integrally forming a tubular base 1a and a tapering-off tapered pipe 1b by a drawing process. The aboveground height of the tubular base 1a is set in a range of 1/5 or less of the aboveground height of the steel pipe pole from 0. The thickness of the tapering-off tapered pipe 1b is set to the thickness or less of the tubular base 1a. The tip diameter of the tapering-off tapered pipe 1b is desirably set to 4/5 or less of the base part diameter of the tubular base 1a.
