A 2D/3D selection liquid crystal display comprises a display liquid crystal panel (10) for creating a display image according to inputted image data, a patterning phase plate (20) serving as a parallax barrier for giving a specific viewing angle to the image displayed in a 3D display mode and thereby producing a 3D effect, and a switching liquid crystal panel (30) for switching between a 2D display and a 3D display by enabling/disabling the effect of parallax barrier means. The widths of the active areas of the patterning phase plate (20) and the switching liquid crystal panel (30) are greater than that of the display liquid crystal panel (10). As a result, the viewing angle in a 2D display mode of the 2D/3D selection liquid crystal display can be equivalent to that of 2D-only liquid crystal display.
