The garment is fitted with an already existing zip fastener of a suitable length, sewn to the adjacent edges by using two strips of fabric (4) carrying the metal or plastic teeth (3). A new set of two rows of matching teeth (1) can be attached to the existing teeth (3) with two clamping profiles (2) accommodating the existing teeth (3). The garment is slightly extended by the process. If the teeth (3) of a zip fastener are worn out, the new set (1) can be clamped directly to the lateral band (4) in order to retain the original size of the garment.
