The invention relates to a system in which the depollution means (1) are connected to oxidation-catalyst-forming means (2) and the engine (4) is connected to common fuel rail means (7), said means being adapted to implement a regeneration strategy comprising at least one post-injection of fuel into the cylinders. The invention is characterised in that it comprises: means (8) for detecting a regeneration request; means (9) for detecting the removal of the foot from the accelerator of the vehicle; means (11) for acquiring the temperature downstream of the catalyst-forming means; means (8) for determining a maximum quantity of fuel to be injected by means of post-injections during the return-to-idle-speed phase following the removal of the foot from the accelerator, the aforementioned acquired temperature being used for said purpose; and means (7, 8) for immediately stopping the post-injection once the quantity of injected fuel has reached the maximum quantity.
