PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water-absorbing resin through controlling in a wide range the particle size of the desired water-absorbing resin by a simple means and also markedly reducing the deposition of the resin to the polymerization vessel to improve the yield of the final resin. SOLUTION: The method for producing the water-absorbing resin comprises the following practice: A hydrophobic organic solvent and a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer are charged into the polymerization vessel 1 with an inner diameter D equipped with an agitator and subjected to reverse-phase suspension polymerization under agitation by the agitator. In this method, the agitator is a multiaxial agitator with a low-speed agitating blade 2( diameter dl ) and a high-speed agitating blade 3( diameter dh ), the revolutions( rpm ) of the low-speed agitating blade 2 are less than the revolutions( rpm ) of the high-speed agitating blade 3, and the respective blade diameters and the inner diameter of the polymerization vessel 1 meets the relationship:2×dl
