PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To write the characters, pictures or the like of high designing freedom without wasting a recording capacity when visible characters, pictures or the like are formed on the recording surface of a disk. SOLUTION: Based on the graphic information of characters, pictures or the like input from an input section 15, a system controller 14 forms a graphic writing pattern and specifies a sector in which the graphic writing pattern is formed. When a laser beam is applied to form a graphic pattern on a disk 1, the system controller 14 records the address of the specified sector in a defect management area, and registers the sector as a defective sector.
