<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonlinear optical material which has an excellent nonlinear optical constant and can be utilized suitably to an optical switch, an optical element and the like. <P>SOLUTION: The nonlinear optical material has, on a substrate, aligned dye associate and ionic liquid.
