PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor memory device which can simplify the design work. SOLUTION: In this device a data input circuit of either inverted or noninverted position can be used to simplify the design of a semiconductor memory device by connecting a plurality of first parallel data input branch lines ISL10-ISL17 to data input trunk lines IML0-IML7 for the bit lines BL0-BL7 facing one another in the noninverted positions, and connecting second data input branch lines ISL20-ISL27 to the IML0-IML7 for the bit lines BL0-BL7 facing one another in the inverted positions, and by using the input line connection switches 34A to 34H to connect one of the first and second data input branch lines ISL10-ISL17 and ISL20-ISL27 to the bit lines BLO-BL7 depending on the positions noninverted or inverted in the data input circuit.
