PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus with a camera, from which personal information cannot be illegally extracted, when the apparatus is lost or stolen. SOLUTION: In a portable phone 4, image data are stored in a first storage memory 33, and a name, address and birth date, etc., are stored in a second storage memory 40. A memory control circuit 47 controls reading of the second storage memory 40. When a preregistered protect code is inputted to the portable phone 4, the reading of personal information from the first storage memory 33 and the second storage memory 40 is inhibited. The portable phone 4 is provided with an IrDA (Infrared Data Association) interface 38 for using IrDA for communication, a light-emitting device 35 and a photodetector 37.
