PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray image diagnostic apparatus and a method of generating image data permitting generation of fluoroscopic road map image data to facilitate the change of the direction of imaging. SOLUTION: A plurality of reference image data are generated by the injection of a contrast agent to a subject 150 in a plurality of predetermined directions of imaging and the radiography using an X-ray source 1 and an X-ray detecting part 2. Next, the fluoroscopic road map image data are generated by an image operation circuit 71 of an image operation memory part 7 in the diagnosis or treatment of the subject 150 based on fluoroscopic image data in a desired direction of imaging obtained by the X-ray source 1 and the X-ray detecting part 2 and the reference image data in the same direction of imaging as of the fluoroscopic image data selected from the plurality of reference image data.
