In a process to manufacture a universal joint for a steering fork linkage, a length of steel tube is placed inside a forming tool and subjected to high internal pressure. The pipe sector in which the forks are to be created expands under internal pressure. The fork halves are created by cutting a profile along the pre-defined interface.
