PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for outputting an excellent image over a long term by effectively restraining deterioration in image quality at both ends of a drum in the case of transferring the image by a contact transfer roller system. SOLUTION: A transfer roller coming into contact with the surface of a photoreceptor drum is arranged, transfer bias is applied to the transfer roller, recording material is made to pass through a nip position between the photoreceptor drum and the transfer roller, and a toner image on the photoreceptor drum on the surface of recording material is transferred. In such a case, a roller composed of conductive rubber and ground in reverse directions between a center part area and both end parts in the axial direction of the surface of the transfer roller is used as the transfer roller, and the toner image is transferred while rotating the transfer roller and the photoreceptor drum so that the grinding direction of the center part in the axial direction of the transfer roller is a forward direction to the moving direction of the photoreceptor drum and the grinding direction of both end parts in the axial direction of the transfer roller is a direction reverse to the moving direction of the photoreceptor drum at the nip part between the transfer roller and the photoreceptor drum.
