The system includes sensors for both vehicles (Cv) and for pedestrians (Cp). A processing unit (UT) acts on the information received from these sensors and manages the three-colour lights. The processing unit provides time information on these displays, by use of pictograms, anticipating the changeover of the traffic light display. The system for controlling traffic lights at a crossroads includes a sensor for the presence and movement of vehicles (Cv) and a sensor for the present and movement of pedestrians (Cp). A processing unit (UT) acts on the information received from these sensors and manages the three-colour lights. It also controls additional displays (Av & Ap) for the vehicle drivers and pedestrians. The processing unit provides time information on these displays, anticipating the changeover of the traffic light display. This may be displayed by use of a pictogram. For drivers the display may include different shaped indicators mounted in the conventional column of three lights. For pedestrians the display may include an image of group of pedestrians who may be shown in moving, or standing mode in a range of possible configurations.
