METHOD FOR PRODUCING BRANCHED ALKYL ETHER COMPOUND, AND APPLICATION OF THE COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a branched alkyl ether compound having a constant polymerization composition and a prescribed molecular weight in good reproducibility.

SOLUTION: The method for producing the branched alkyl ether compound represented by general formulas (III) and/or (IV) involves reacting a 2-alkyl-1,2-epoxyalkane represented by general formula (I) with a polyalkylene ether represented by general formula (II). (In the formulas, n is an integer of 6-30; one of R1and R2is an alkyl group and the other is a hydrogen atom; one of X and Y is a hydrogen atom and the other is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; j and k are each a positive integer satisfying the conditions of j+k=1 to 300, j≥1 and k/j=0 to 10; Z is X or Y).
