PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking mechanism for a seat capable of eliminating looseness at the time of locking and a noise emission caused by the looseness and avoiding an increase in the number of component parts without impairing the operating performance of locking and unlocking. SOLUTION: The locking mechanism for the vehicle seat is structured so that a lock base 21 is fixed to the body side or the seat side of a vehicle and an engaging member 32 is secured to the other, and when the engaging member 32 is received by the releasing part 22 of the lock base 21, the peripheral surface of the engaging member 32 is restrained by a hook part 23a of a locking member 23, wherein at least the periphery of the hook part 23a of the locking member 23 is covered with a resin layer 25. The resin layer 25 is furnished rigidly with a projection to make elastic deformation upon interfering with the peripheral surface of the engaging member 32 in a place on the hook member 23a restraining the peripheral surface of the engaging member 32.
