PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor supporting device which prevents a rotor and a hydrostatic bearing from being brought into contact and abutted even when delivery pressure from a rotor (impeller) which acts on a hydrostatic bearing is zero or extremely low. SOLUTION: The device contains a hydrostatic bearing (4) and a protection ring (6). Under a normal temperature (at start), the clearance size (α) (in a radial direction) between the outer peripheral surface (3o) of a rotor (an impeller 3) and the inner peripheral surface (6i) of the protection ring is made smaller than the clearance size (β) (in a radial direction), between the outer peripheral surface (3o) of the rotor (the impeller 3) and the inner peripheral surface (41i) of the hydrostatic bearing (4) (in an axial end or eaves ).
