PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce noise by contriving the arrangement of heat generating components such as a light valve element, a power source and a light source and the arrangement of a cooling fan. SOLUTION: In the projection type display device, cooling air ducts for a liquid crystal panel and the power source are separated and made independent of the cooling air duct for the light source which generates heat largely, the quantity of the cooling air is optimized in each cooling air duct, and the noise made with the rotation of the cooling fan is reduced in the case of cooling the light source, the power source and the liquid crystal panel. In the display device, the cooling fan is arranged nearly in the center of each cooling air duct, so that the noise is restrained from being leaked from a suction port and an exhaust port opening to a device housing.
