Method of extracting minutiae characteristics for automatic fingerprint identification

Method involves capturing image data of a fingerprint, and automatically determining the position of minutiae in the fingerprint. Curve of a skin ridge between two minutiae (M1, M2) is measured and used as a characteristic value for distance between the two minutiae along a skin ridge. Curvature of ridge is determined at a multiplicity of points along a ridge and compared with stored fingerprint data. Comparison delivers a degree of agreement.
