PURPOSE:To enhance cycle performance by mainly using a hydrogen storage alloy covered with at least one alloy layer selected from Ni-Co alloy, Ni-Sn alloy, Ni-Zn alloy, and Ni-Mo alloy. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a hydrogen storage alloy is covered with at least one alloy layer selected from Ni-Co alloy, Ni-Sn alloy, Ni-Zn alloy, and Ni-Mo alloy. Corrosion of the hydrogen storage alloy layer caused by a local cell in an alkaline electrolyte progresses in the plain direction and corrosion in the central direction is decreased. Corrosion of the hydrogen storage alloy is thereby decreased. Since nickel produced on the alloy layer by local cell action is active, the absorbing-releasing reaction of hydrogen is accelerated by a catalytic action, and electrochemical performance of the hydrogen storage alloy is enhanced. The cycle performance of batteries A-D having hydrogen storage alloy electrode is enhanced. |
