PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a latch mechanism for an optical transmitter/receiver that prevents damage to the actuator upon the breaking of the engagement of a cage claw and the lock section of the optical transmitter/receiver. SOLUTION: In this latch mechanism 10 for an optical transmitter/receiver 1, the latch mechanism 10 is provided with a lock which engages with the claw 43 of a cage 42 whereinto the optical transmitter/receiver 1 is removably inserted, and with an actuator 12 for driving the lock section fully into the optical transmitter/receiver 1 for breaking the engagement. The actuator 12 comprises a swing section which accommodates the lock section and swings, a swing shaft for pivotally supporting the swing section, and an operating section for driving the lock section fully into the optical transmitter/receiver 1 by swinging the swing section into the optical transmitter/receiver 1.
