PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerating apparatus including a refrigerant circuit having a collecting container of a simple structure for collecting foreign matter in a pipe. SOLUTION: This refrigerating apparatus includes the collecting container 40 for foreign matter connected to the intake side of a compressor 21 by an inflow pipe 42 and an outflow pipe 43. An outlet end in an inflow pipe 42 is opened toward the base in the collecting container 40, and an inlet end in the outflow pipe 43 is positioned above the outlet end in the inflow pipe 42 in the collecting container 40. Preparatory operation is made for circulating a refrigerant in the refrigerant circuit 10 for designated time so that the refrigerant in the gas-liquid two-phase state flows into the collecting container 40. After that, the collecting operation for circulating the refrigerant in the refrigerant circuit 10 so that the gas refrigerant flows into the collecting container 40 is performed to thereby collect the foreign matter in the collecting container 40.
