PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an installing device and method for a piston ring, advantageous in equipment cost, by connecting the respective sliders of the piston side and the ring side through a clutch mechanism to a uniaxial driving source to surely and easily install a set of rings without switching or vertically moving a regulating member even if a spacer is different in thickness. SOLUTION: A slider mechanism 23A for controlling the relative position of a piston chuck unit 21 holding a piston P and an enlarged-diameter unit 24 for expanding the piston ring R and holding the same has one rotary screw shaft 3. When a slide bar 4s is moved by the rotary screw shaft 3, the enlarged diameter unit 24 and the piston chuck unit 21 are engaged and disengaged with and from the slide bar 4s by a clutch part J, whereby even if one rotary screw shaft 3 is taken as the driving source, the piston ring R can be surely and easily installed to the piston P, and furthermore, the equipment cost can be reduced.
