PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding wheel correcting device of a vertical type double-ended surface grinding machine, freely switching between dressing work and truing work of a grinding wheel without attaching and detaching respective correcting grinding wheels and a holding member for the respective grinding wheels. SOLUTION: The vertical type double-ended surface grinding wheel includes a pair of upper and lower grinding wheels 2, 3 rotated around the axis of a vertical shaft. Both upper and lower sides of a work are surface ground between both grinding wheels 2, 3. As a grinding wheel correcting device, a correcting grinding wheel holding disk 16 is provided to rotate and rock around the axis of the vertical shaft, and the outer peripheral end part of the correcting grinding wheel holding disk 16 is disposed to pass between the upper and lower grinding wheels 2, 3. A dressing grinding wheel 18 for dressing and a truing grinding wheel 19 for truing are fixed as a correcting grinding wheel to portions substantially opposite to each other with the axis of the vertical shaft interposed between them in the outer peripheral end part of the correcting grinding wheel holding disk 16.
