The two-stroke engine includes a reciprocating piston driving a crankshaft (7) located in a crankcase which in predetermined positions of the crankshaft is connected to the combustion chamber by a transfer passage. The connection between the crankcase and transfer passage is controlled by a valve element comprising a sleeve (22) rotationally fixed in the crankcase and interacting with a control element rotationally fixed and connected to the crankshaft. The sleeve has at least one control surface (23,25) with an opening (24,26) through which the connection is made.
