PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a liquid crystal display capable of forming a panel having high uniformity and having recovery force sufficient for local loading without causing unevenness called gravity failure due to a large deformation amount in a minute loading region. SOLUTION: The substrate for the liquid crystal display has at least a transparent substrate and a columnar spacer formed on the transparent substrate, and an initial deformation amount A and a plastic deformation amount B obtained when the spacer is measured by a prescribed measuring method are set to≥0.04μm and≤0.7μm, respectively.
