PURPOSE: To manufacture a copper alloy with high strength and wear resistance for use in synchronizer ring, by homogeneous distribution of fine TiC precipitates in matrix. CONSTITUTION: The copper alloy comprises 57 to 65 wt.% of Cu, 1.0 to 6.0 wt.% of Al, 0.5 to 3.0 wt.% of Ni, 0.5 to 3.0 wt.% of Si, 0.5 to 5.0 wt.% of Mn, 0.03 to 2.5 wt.% of Ti, 0.01 to 1.0 wt.% of C and a balance of Zn and inevitable impurities, wherein an intermetallic compound containing TiC is dispersed into matrix of the copper alloy. The method comprises the step of manufacturing a cast billet by casting the molten metal after melting Cu, Zn, Al, Ni, Mn, Si and C in the temperature range of about 1100 to 1300 deg.C so that the alloy has a composition comprising 57 to 65 wt.% of Cu, 1.0 to 6.0 wt.% of Al, 0.5 to 3.0 wt.% of Ni, 0.5 to 3.0 wt.% of Si, 0.5 to 5.0 wt.% of Mn, 0.03 to 2.5 wt.% of Ti, 0.01 to 1.0 wt.% of C and a balance of Zn and inevitable impurities.
