The fender has a protection body (7) connected to fastening units (8, 9) on a ship. The protection body is made in form of sections (7a-7d) connected to each other by deformable connecting units (7e-7g). The connecting units permit the protection body to deform itself to come into contact with the shape of the hull of the ship. The sections of the body (7a, 7d) are connected to the respective fastening units (8, 9). An independent claim is also included for a system with a fender.
