PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone set and its control method for facsimile equipment in which switching from on-hook to off-hook is easily performed without erroneous hook detection caused by chattering and without howling. SOLUTION: In the telephone set for the facsimile equipment, in a facsimile communication device provided with an on-hook key for instructing implementation of a call originating operation while monitoring a line sound from a main body speaker and a handset for transmitting voices from a microphone while monitoring a line sound with a receiver, when the handset is off-hooked after the on-hook key is pressed, stop of line monitoring from the main body speaker and switching to an off-hook dial operation are respectively started by detecting mutually different detecting signals.
