PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a tracking measurement in a direction desired by an operator without affected by burring, dust or the like staying on the route for the edge tracking measurement. SOLUTION: An image of a work 12 is displayed on a CRT, and a measurement start point Pb as the start point of an edge for the tracking measurement within the work image, a measurement finish point Pe as the end point, and an inflection point C where an edge condition or the like is changed are clicked with a mouse to assign the measuring sections. Similarity, of an edge shape in each of the measuring sections, to a straight line, a circular arc or a free curved line is input as a tracking shape. A measuring tool (box tool, circular arc tool, auto-tracing tool, or the like) suitable for the tracking shape is arranged in the every measuring section, and a part program is generated to execute the edge tracking measurement along the route indicated by the tracking shape.
