<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for tracking an object with high reliability and to be stably operated capable of exactly detecting a detecting object and tracking it even when a change of orientation of the detecting object is large, and a device therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In this object tracking method for detecting and tracking the object in a picked image based on an image signal to be obtained from an imaging device, it is provided with a template image creation step for creating a template image with prescribed size including a part of the object from the image acquired from the imaging device, an image change detection step for detecting a changed area of the image between frames based on images of two or more frames acquired at different time from the imaging device and an object position correction step for detecting a position of the object based on the detected changed area of the image and for defining the detected object position as a new template image in place of the template image. Thus, a disadvantage that stable tracking becomes impossible to be performed when the change of orientation of the detecting object is large in the conventional manner is eliminated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
