POLAR ENGRAVING MACHINE

The invention relates to an engraving and/or marking machine consisting of a frame (2) comprising a support for a work area (3) which can receive an object that is to be engraved and which can be used to immobilise said object at least during the engraving operations. The inventive machine is characterised in that (i) the aforementioned frame (2) forms a support for a bracket comprising a shaft (7) and a projecting arm (8) which is equipped with a tool head (9), and in that (ii) said machine also comprises means of positioning the tool (10) in relation to the object along cylindrical co-ordinates. Moreover, the positioning means comprise: translation means (11) which are used to move the tool (10) horizontally at a controlled distance from the shaft (7), rotation means (12) which are used to rotate the projecting arm (8) by a controlled angle in relation to a reference position, lifting means (13) which are used to move the tool (10) vertically to a controlled height from the object, and means of controlling and regulating said translation, rotation and lifting means.
