PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera realizing the improvement of the response speed of control operation based on image information successively read out from an imaging device even when a high-speed clock is not adopted. SOLUTION: In the digital camera, AF control based on the image information in a focus detection area equivalent to a part of a photographic image plane can be performed, and the time of one frame concerning the imaging device is set to 40ms longer than that in the conventional manner. By setting in such a way, processing from starting the readout processing RD2 to read out the image information from the imaging device until finishing automatic tracking AF processing (detecting the movement of a main subject and changing a focus detection area on the photographic image plane) CT1 is performed within one frame. Thus, the automatic tracking AF control based on an image for AF 1 acquired by readout processing RD1 and an image for AF 2 acquired by the readout processing RD2 is performed in the time equivalent to two frames shorter than that in the conventional manner.
