A mechanism (10) for raising a toilet seat (11) includes two geared shafts (25, 29) that are cooperatively engaged while mounted on a toilet. A foot-operated lever (14) attached to a first of the geared shafts (25) provides torque thereto, causing a rotation of the first geared shaft (25) upon depressing the lever (14). This, in turn, causes a rotation of the second of the geared shafts (29). The second geared shaft (29) includes a metal flange (18) or other connector that secures a toilet seat (11) thereto over the bowl of the toilet. As the two geared shafts (25, 29) rotate, the toilet seat (11) raises and lowers with the movement of the metal flange (18) on the second geared shaft (29). |
