PURPOSE: A composition for treatment of constipation containing herbal plants is provided. It has effects of promoting contractile motility of the ileum and peristaltic motion of the intestines and shows a tendency similar to bowel movement promoting effect of acetylcholine. It exhibits an LD50 value of greater than 2,000 mg/kg against rats or mice. CONSTITUTION: The composition for treating constipation contains 4 to 12 parts by weight of Angelicae Gigantis Radix, 2 to 6 parts by weight of Ponciri Fructus, 2 to 6 parts by weight of Polygoni multiflori Radix, 2 to 6 parts by weight of Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba, 2 to 6 parts by weight of Cnidii Rhizoma, 2 to 6 parts by weight of Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, 2 to 6 parts by weight of Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2 to 6 parts by weight of Glycyrrhizae Radix and 2 to 6 parts by weight of Cinnamomi Cortex.
