The invention relates to a device for examining filled containers (10) for foreign bodies (26) such as glass slivers. Said device comprises a transport unit (16), which transports the containers (10) individually in line one behind the other on a transport plane, in addition to an X-ray source (18) f or emitting an X-ray (24) in a predetermined direction and a unit (20, 22) for capturing the X-rays (24) once they have traversed the container (10). The direction, in which the X-rays (24) are emitted by the X-ray source (18) is inclined at between 10 and 60~ to the transport plane. Two X-ray sources can be provided (18), one above and one below the transport plane. The device is particularly suitable for examining filled containers (10) for foreign bodie s, the X-ray source (18) being positioned in such a way that the course of the rays runs approximately tangentially to the maximum gradient of the convexit y of the container base.
